Message from His Excellency Akio ISOMATA, The Ambassador of Japan

I am pleased to extend this message to the visitors of the Sri Lanka–Japan Business Council (SLJBC) website. This platform plays an important role in fostering mutual understanding and strengthening business collaboration between Sri Lanka and Japan.

Since its establishment in 1979, the SLJBC has played a vital role in strengthening the longstanding friendship between our two countries. As the oldest bilateral business council under the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, SLJBC has contributed immensely to the enhancement of trade, investment, and even cultural ties between Japan and Sri Lanka. I deeply appreciate the Council’s strenuous efforts and unwavering commitment over the years.

As part of its ongoing efforts to foster bilateral engagement, the SLJBC has also extended its support to global initiatives that spotlight Sri Lanka’s economic potential. One such initiative is the EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, which presents a valuable opportunity to showcase Sri Lanka’s appeals and strengths—including those related to trade and investment—to a global audience. I would like to acknowledge the SLJBC’s efforts in raising awareness and building momentum for the EXPO within Sri Lanka’s business community. Such initiatives reflect the Council’s continued dedication to deepening ties between our two nations.

Amid Sri Lanka’s ongoing journey toward economic recovery, I believe there are increasing opportunities for Japanese and Sri Lankan enterprises to engage in meaningful and mutually beneficial partnerships. In this regard, the SLJBC—with its extensive network, wealth of experience, and deep understanding of both business environments—is well positioned to act as a catalyst for further cooperation.

I encourage companies and entrepreneurs from both countries to make full use of the SLJBC’s resources and network to explore new avenues of collaboration. The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka remains committed to supporting the Council’s activities and to further strengthening economic and commercial ties between our two nations.

It is my sincere hope that this website will continue to serve as a bridge that connects businesses, promotes dialogue, and contributes to sustainable development of Sri Lanka’s economy as well as enduring partnership between Japan and Sri Lanka.
